By the time you receive this issue, we will be moving into the fall. I hope your summer months were wonderful, because they come and go so quickly in the Midwest.

The great thing about the fall is that it is also football season. This year promises to be a very exciting one for the Huskies with our new head coach, Thomas Hammock. He and his wife are both NIU graduates, and it’s always great to bring Huskies back. Becoming the NIU head coach has been a life goal for Coach Hammock, and he brought in a great group of coaches for the upcoming season. For those Huskie fans looking for a bit more action on the offensive side of the ball, Coach is committed to make that happen.

I’d like you to consider coming back to NIU for a game or two to show your support.

Athletics has a number of ticket promotions available to make it affordable to bring your whole family. If you haven’t been back for a while, or even if you have, contact your Alumni Association to set up a campus tour. Some things have changed and some are just the way you remember them, but it is always fun to come back and check out your alma mater.

As you have seen in reading this issue of Northern Now, there is a lot going on, both with your University and your Alumni Association. I urge you to connect in some way. We at the NIUAA have worked hard to provide plenty of fun and fulfilling opportunities for you to connect.

I hope to see you soon at a future event!

Take care,
Peter Garrity
