There’s a class for that app
The next app you download could be written by a fellow Huskie.
NIU’s computer science department has partnered with Lextech Global Services, a developer of custom software applications, to offer a series of courses to teach students how to write apps for multiple platforms, culminating in a certificate in mobile device programming.
Alex Bratton, president and CEO of Lextech, recognizes the importance of the program: “Among skilled mobile apps developers, there’s virtually zero unemployment because they are in such high demand. This effort by NIU and Lextech will prepare students to be immediate workplace contributors and fill a substantial workplace void.”
Christopher McCord, dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, agrees, adding, “This is an innovative partnership, both in content and in form, with Lextech donating staff time to train our faculty members so they can deliver the courses. It allows NIU and Lextech to bring together their distinctive strengths and to accomplish something that neither could do on its own.”
