The Northern Illinois University College of Law proudly celebrated the achievements of eight exceptional alumni and friends at its 2025 Annual Awards Reception, hosted by Dean Cassandra L. Hill.
Each year, the College recognizes individuals whose careers reflect the highest standards of professional integrity, outstanding accomplishments, and meaningful service to both NIU Law and the broader community.
This year’s honorees represent the very best of the NIU Law family. CPT Stephanie Moore, ’19, received the Young Alum of the Year Award in recognition of her exemplary service to her country and community so early in her career. Representative David Vella, ’97, was honored with the Public Service Award for his tireless efforts and impact as an elected official.

The celebration also highlighted alumni whose commitment to service has made a lasting difference. Angela Kilpatrick, ’95, was recognized with the Distinguished Service Award for her long-standing contributions to the legal profession and the College, while Laura Cholula Chang, ’21, received the Outstanding Service Award for her dedicated advocacy and community involvement.
The College was also proud to recognize Associate Dean Jeanna Hunter with the Honorary Alum Award, honoring her decades of student-focused leadership and dedication to NIU Law’s mission. Finally, Neil Michling, ’18, and Christine Janis, ’16, were celebrated as Mentors of the Year for their commitment to guiding and inspiring the next generation of lawyers.
